Fire Department News
From Chief Turner
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Madison County Fire Department personnel for their time and dedication the week of May 1, 2010. I would also like to thank the Henderson County Rescue, Chester County Rescue and all Jackson Madison County Agencies for their assistance in rescue efforts on May 1, 2010.
On May 1st at around 5:30 a.m. Madison County Fire Department received their first call for water rescue. By 6:00 p.m. we had rescued approximately 160 people and several animals from either vehicles, businesses or homes. At one given time we had over 25 pieces of equipment and approximately 60 firefighters answering calls for service. We continued to work through the night and into the next day rescuing approximately an additional 10 people.
On May 2nd we started road damage assessment checking all county roads and bridges. We turned all findings into the Highway Department. On May 3rd we took pictures for FEMA of damaged county roads and bridges. On May 6th we brought in 30 firefighters for training on residential and commercial flood damage assessment. On May 8th our 30 firefighters located residential and commercial flood damage areas for FEMA.
By the end of this event we had logged 1022 man hours and answered approximately 80 weather related calls. Because of the great efforts of our first responders, there were no serious injuries or loss of life.
